My take on Resharper

leave a comment »

I use Jetbrains Resharper. It helps me during development – things like code navigations, refactoring, code analysis etc. I would definitely recommend it. The code analysis is really useful. It not only keeps your code clean from unused variables / methods, etc but highlights any potential issues like access to modified closure.

They’ve so much features, that every now and then I find out something new that I haven’t done before. Here are few such things…

  • You can quickly find a file or a Type in the solution by entering the first letter and subsequent upper case characters (CamelCase). Its a time saver.
  • I keep reorganizing my code grouping methods / properties. I’ve done that manually before. Today I found out that Resharper has a shortcut for that (Ctl-Shift-Alt-Up / Down). Wow!

There has been few instances where it seems to take up more memory and VS kind of slows down. It hasn’t bothered me much. I would definitely take it. They have a new version 4.5 coming up soon, which they claim to have addressed performance / memory issues.
